Bitter Twisted Wrong - Review
As the title suggests, this is a Bitter and Twisted lady with a real sense of grievance against the world. She also possesses a fine voice and the, entirely self-written, album is well produced and musically rich and flexible.
Phillip Goss played most of the instruments as well as producing and engineering the album but the thing you take away is the voice and the emotions that Ms Tomlin pours into her music. Chrystina’s voice bears comparison with a number of singers, not least Pink or Avril Lavigne but the strongest resemblance is to Dolores O’Riordan where she carries the vulnerability and emotional intensity nearly to breaking point.
With titles like 'Your Demise’, 'Bitter Twisted Wrong’, 'Accusations’ or 'Infidelity’ it isn’t too difficult to work out that this is an album of troubled relationships and broken hearts and there is little here to lift the heart of the listener but after a while you do get to feel the hurt of the singer as well as the anger and begin to listen to the why of her hurt as well as the what.
Phillip Goss’ musicianship is quire excellent throughout with his guitar work and percussion very much his strength as well as his skills in the booth.
Overall this is an excellent debut – heartfelt and emotional and, while it isn’t the greatest album of its kind, it could be the beginning of a major career for Ms Tomlin.
