Bitter Twisted Wrong - Review
What a punchy piece of work this is!! Kinda like a gutsy, rockin' KT Tunstall with massive balls and real attitude, Chrystina Tomlin positively rips into her songs and knocks you sideways with her aggressive take on contemporary music.
Tomlin is actually quite difficult to categorise; she delves deep into rockin' blues territory but retains a down-home folk reality and utilises a hefty chunk of twenty-first century R&B that's unlike anything that most of her contemporaries can get close to.
With her powerful but expressive and expansive voice Tomlin tends to drill home her songs in a way that's pretty unique and certainly very memorable. But, Tomlin can just as easily be sensitive and evocative; her way is varied yet somehow well focussed and stunningly accessible. Musically Tomlin keeps things very tight and tidy - she never allows over-indulgence or over-playing which allows her excellent vocals to stand out proud and prominent - the main instrument!
As Tomlin weaves her way through the twelve tracks here she covers a whole lot of ground genre-wise as she rocks out with hard driven professionalism and raunchy emotion.
Tomlin certainly puts everything into her impressive songs and manages to keep interest high by ringin' the changes track to track and running the full gamut of modern styles without reliance on any one particular style or sound.Coz of the variation in styles on 'Bitter Twisted Wrong' it's hard to pull out any real stand-out tracks; suffice to say that they're all pretty impressive and there's something for everyone -
although I do particularly like what she does on 'Stand Corrected'. There's nothing to actually dislike here - Tomlin has done a fine job and come up with an all encompassing work that's modern, punchy and very listenable.'Bitter Twisted Wrong' by Chrystina Tomlin is a great piece of work that could do very well; maybe not the most commercial of albums in terms of 'popability' but defo a work for the more mature, discerning music lover
